Asif Ismail -Director
  1. Originally from India, Asif Ismail is a former tennis is a player who has the rare distinction of representing two countries in the Davis Cup, first India and later Hong Kong.
  2. Asif won the Asian junior championship in Philippines in 1988, and was selected to represent The Asian Junior ITF team at the French Open and Wimbledon and played in all the junior grand slam tournaments that year.
  3. Asif was the Singles Hard court National Champion in 1991 and 1994.
  4. In 1993 he was also the Singles National Grass court champion.
  5. Asif also won the National doubles Championships in 1994 and 1995 partnering Mahesh Bhupathi and 1996 with Marcus Hilpert.
  6. In 1994 playing as the second singles player for India at the Hiroshima Asian Games, Asif won both his singles matches to help India win the Team event Gold medal.
  7. He reached his highest ATP singles ranking in December 1995, when he became World No. 412.
  8. In the South Asian Federation Games !991 and 1996, Asif won 2 Gold medals, 1 Bronze medal and 1 Gold and 1 Silver medal for India, respectively.
  9. In 1996, Asif received the  Shiv Chhatrapati award, the highest sporting honour for players in the state of Maharashtra.
  10. In 1997 Asif received the prestigious Arjuna Award, for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games bestowed by the Government of India, from the President of India for his achievements in Tennis.
  11. Currently Asif is the only Internationally USPPR Certified Coaching Professional in Hong Kong

Coaching Achievements

  1. In 1998 Asif started his own tennis academy in Mumbai where he trained upcoming juniors, with several of them earning scholarships at reputed universities in UK and USA. His academy also produced several players who went on to win state and national ranking tournaments.
  2. In 2001 he moved to Hong Kong and represented HK in 2003 and 2004 Davis cup ties vs Tajikistan and Philippines respectively.
  3. During the 2006 season, Asif had his debut as a coach in Grand Slam tournaments, coaching Sania Mirza during the French Open and Wimbledon.
  4. Currently, Asif is the Tennis Director at the Aberdeen Marina Club where he is coaching and running the tennis program successfully for 20 years.
  5. Asif Ismail is a USPTR certified coach.
  6. Currently Asif is the only Internationally USPPR Certified Coaching Professional in Hong Kong
  7. Certified Clinician for Level 1 for United States Pickleball Professional Registry
  8. Pickleball Director/Coach at Aberdeen Marina Club and Ladies Recreation Club

Asif is one of the most respected tennis professionals in Hong Kong. His work has mainly been with the private sector but his influence on the city’s tennis development extends far beyond that. He is a member of our national association’s player development committee and his contribution is highly valued. Having been India’s top junior player, a member of their Davis Cup team and an Asian Games gold medalist, his playing experiences have been an invaluable asset to our organisation.
